Al Montoya gets the start in goal tonight for the Islanders here in Denver, his first start since Oct. 20. He was very sharp in relief of Evgeni Nabokov in Monday’s 6-2 loss to the Bruins in Boston, stopping 22 of 24 shots, so Jack Capuano made the clear choice to go back with Montoya.
Rick DiPietro will be tonight’s backup against the Avalanche, who are going with Semyon Varlamov in goal.
Mike Mottau also returns to the lineup after being scratched the last five games, taking Milan Jurcina’s spot. Mottau will play the right side with Mark Eaton on defense.
Colorado started the season off by winning five straight on the road, but they are just 2-7-1 since and 1-5-1 at the Pepsi Center.
