Andrew MacDonald, Marty Reasoner skate for first time

Andrew MacDonald (hip surgery) and Marty Reasoner (knee) both skated with their group this morning at the Coliseum. It was a relatively easy, low-contact skate, but both indicated they came through OK as they work their way back into regular roles.

Neither will likely play this weekend's games, tomorrow night in Boston or Saturday night at home against the Devils.

"Hopefully by next weekend, I can get into one, if not both of those (last) preseason games," MacDonald said. He'll be six months removed from his arthroscopy next week, which is the full rehab time.

As for Reasoner, the free agent center who twisted his knee doing Saturday's camp-opening conditioning sprints, this was not the way he wanted to kick off his Islanders career.

"You want to make an impression and gain the respect of your new teammates, so it's tough," he said. "But we've still got a ways to go here before opening night, so better this happens now than a month from now."

Brian Rolston left Wednesday's practice with a sore groin. His group is due on the ice within the hour.
