The past three games, the Islanders have soundly beaten three high-quality teams in Detroit, Buffalo and New Jersey. Tonight they'll have another big test playing Pittsburgh in their first game back since completing a five-game road trip.
"Pittsburgh is another team that we can build off what we've done and know, if we play a certain way, we give ourselves a great chance to win," coach Scott Gordon said.
Throughout the season the Islanders have done well in some areas while lacking others, but during this recent stretch they've managed to achieve success in practically every facet of the game.
"I think the last three games has been as close as we can be to doing everything well," Gordon said.
"I think the biggest thing is understanding what gives you success. There weren’t any shortcuts taken, guys didn’t take a shift off. You can work hard and not smart. But in this stretch we've managed puck well and made good decisions."
No lineup changes for the Islanders tonight; Dwayne Roloson in net.
Also, Islanders prospect Travis Hamonic was in town recently to get a second opinion on his shoulder that was injured in the semifinal game during World Juniors earlier this month. Hamonic, who was used as part of Team Canada's top shutdown pair, suffered a Grade 3 separation and will be out 8 weeks.
