No, the Islanders are not playing, but there is a game with massive implications tonight, regardless.
If the Bruins earn at leas a point against the Eastern Conference-leading Capitals in DC tonight, the Islanders are officially eliminated from playoff contention.
*I'm not very trusting of my computational skills, so for all you doubting the veracity, I made sure to consult with master statistician Eric Hornick, who confirmed as much.
Furthermore, Hornick (who has done stats for Isles home telecasts since 1982!) provided me with the following scenario:
For the Isles to get in, they need ALL of the following to happen:
Isles win all 4 games
Bruins lose all 4 games, all in regulation
Rangers lose all 4 games, with at least two losses in regulation. (Isles can finish ahead of Rangers with 2 NYR loser points, but can not catch NYR if Rangers win one of last 4, because NYR won season series 7 points to 6)
Atlanta earns no more than 3 points in final 3 games
*Hat tip to Mr. Hornick....thanks for the help, not to mention the condolences provided after My Spartans' Final Four loss to Butler the other night...
