Final Score--Islanders 2, Devils 1
Another good game from captain Doug Weight, a solid 25-save night from Rick DiPietro and a superb effort from the Islanders D to contain the offensive firepower of the Devils.
First, and only, win of the pre-season and a well-deserved one.
End of 2nd period--Islanders 2, Devils, 1
Blake Comeau, wearing an "A" tonight along with Trent Hunter, tallied the lone goal of the second period, converting a feed from John Tavares.
Rick DiPietro made the save of the game so far with a sprawling stop on Rod Pelley toward the end of the period. DiPietro's looking sharp through 2 periods. I'd expect him to come out an play the third.
End of 1st period--Islanders 1, Devils 1
Captain Doug Weight, who picked up two assists in last night's game, made a helluva pass to help on Josh Bailey's birthday goal (Bailey turns 21 today). Weight swiveled around the left side of the net, changed direction to shake his defender and roped the puck through the crease to find Bailey at 5:46.
Although Ilya Kovalchuk couldn't convert on his penalty shot--he rung a backhander off the post--Zach Parise tied the game for the Devils later in the period, picking the top left corner of the net and beating a sprawling DiPietro.
