Former Islanders goaltender Yann Danis will get the start in goal tonight for New Jersey.
Devils head coach Jacques Lemaire said he felt this was a good time to use Danis--with three games in four nights--to provide Martin Brodeur some time off.
"We've been looking at trying to give Yann a game or two before the end of the season to make sure Marty is well rested."
The fact that Danis has earned a win against his former team--a 2-1 victory November 6--also played a role in his decision.
A 3-1 win against Pittburgh last night pulled the Devils within two points of the Atlantic Divsion--leading Penguins. They can tie the division lead with a win over the Islanders tonight.
"Guys have been feeling good about themselves lately for a lot of reasons, but the main thing is intensity," Lemaire said before the game. "Now that we have it, we want to keep it."
That intensity level was something Isles defenseman Mark Streit noticed while watching the Devils-Penguins game last night.
"You could see how hard they played, both teams. it was a high-tempo game. We've got to have a good start and be ready. We know how they play, they've played the same style for years. We've got to have a good mix of forechecking and putting pressure on their D and being patient."
With both Rob Schremp and Doug Weight out for the year, Josh Bailey will move back to center. With those two and Andrew MacDonald gone, it should also be interesting to see how they fill the void on the PP
