UPDATE: 3:23 p.m. Isles agree to terms on a 2-year deal worth $2.7 M with 34-year-old center Marty Reasoner. Reasoner had 14 goals, 18 assists in all 82 games for the Panthers last season.

UPDATE: 12:05 p.m. Granted, it's not UFA news, but Isles have agreed to terms on an entry-level deal for Russian prospect Kirill Kabanov.

July 1, that much-anticipated date circled on calendars across the National Hockey League, is finally here.

Teams are free to sign unrestricted free agents beginning at noon.

The Islanders already attempted a head start on free agency earlier in the week, acquiring the rights to Canucks defenseman Christian Ehrhoff Tuesday, but couldn't sign him. We'll see if the team is equally aggressive on the opening day or if they'll hang back and hope to get some deals after the top guys are snatched up.

I'll be updating the blog throughout the day. Stay tuned...
