Micheal Haley arrived in newark at 4:30 p,m, today to prep for his first NHL game. After receiving a phone call with the good news this morning, his older brother, Chris, jumped in his car for the 9-hour drive down from Oshawa, Ontario.
That's some brotherly love.
As for what we can expect from Haley tonight?
"I like to hit, stir it up. What's that called? An agitator?" Haley joked.
All joking aside, Haley said he's amped for his professional debut.
"To get into your first NHL game, that's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and that's all I'm really thinking about," Haley said.
Thanks to Penguins beat writer Rob Rossi for graciously providing me with some reaction from Penguins forward Alexei Ponikarovsky. If you don't already, give Rob a follow on Twitter @Rossi_on_Pens.
On his hit on Bailey:
At the last second he deiced to make sharp turn. I was going with my check, and basically he kind of leaned forward too low; there was no way for me to turn away or something, momentum was taking me right through and basically I finished the check.
From what I know he got hurt. It wasn’t my intention. I’m not that type of player. It’s hockey. Unfortunately he suffered a cheek bone fracture or something, I don’t know. I was hoping that wouldn’t happen.
