Multiple sources have confirmed that the Islanders will be heading to China for 8-10 days for 2010 training camp this September.
While the deal has been agreed to in principle, no contracts have been signed.
"No training camps have been finalized," said GM Garth Snow. "We're still exploring our options."
Those with knowledge of the situation, however, said team owner Charles Wang is enthused about the project and in the midst of firming up plans.
Wang, who hails from China, has dedicated a significant amount of resources already to growing hockey in Asia.
Bringing the Islanders to China is part of an idea to enhance the profile and garner interest in the sport.
