Very likely the Islanders best game of the season. They simply dominated Detroit from start to finish for their second straight shutout of the 2008 Stanley Cup Champions (Joey MacDonald had a 2-0 45-save shutout against them last season)
"That was almost a perfect game," said Mark Streit, who finished with one goal and one assist.
"I've played against Detroit a lot in my career and that's one of the best games I've ever seen against them," said Dwayne Roloson who made 16 saves for his first shutout of the season.
Rob Schremp scored twice for his first multi-goal game of his NHL career, both times capitalizing on Detroit giveaways
"He knows I'm a believer in him, he's made a believer out of his teammates and I think he's playing for the the first time as a pro with this type of confidence," Scott Gordon said.
Gordon also revealed a very interesting tidbit in his post-game press conference. He wants his team to be thinking of the playoffs.
"I would like to believe all our players look at the standings," Gordon said. "In the past couple of weeks we've made it a point to post them."
Gordon said that beyond posting them, he's given them an occasional pop quiz to assess player's awareness of the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
Still far away, but if the Islanders continue to play like this, they've got to like their chances.
