UPDATE: Isles top Leafs 2-1 in OT
See above post for game recap
UPDATE: Isles lead Leafs 1-0
Matt Moulson gives the Islanders a 1-0 lead with a pretty backhander off a nice feed from John Tavares.
Roloson with another strong performance at ACC. He made a nice move to seal his left post and rob Kris Versteeg midway through the second. Versteeg looked to strike back later in the period, but a No Goal was called as a result of a high stick.
After a Leafs slashing penalty at the end of the period, Isles will begin the third with a power-play goal.
UPDATE: Isles and Leafs scoreless after first period
Shots even at 8, Roloson looking sharp, and the Islanders have had some good chances in front.
Islanders take on the undefeated Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre tonight.
Jean-Sebastian Giguere in net for Toronto; Dwayne Roloson gets the start for the Islanders.
Although an early pattern of alternating indicated Rick DiPietro would get the start (Roloson was in net for the Isles 5-2 win over the Avalanche Saturday), Coach Scott Gordon went with Roloson again tonight.
“His ability to play in the building is something we’ll use to our advantage and hopefully that will carry over tonight.”
Fairly certain that Gordon has one particular game in mind--the team's 4-3 overtime win on November 23, 2009 last season.
Although the Islanders were outshot 61-21 that game, Roloson was pretty much inpenetrable in net, turning away 58 shots throughout the game for an emotional win.
“It was special,” John Tavares said. “Any time a goalie can steal a win like that is awesome.”
“He just stopped the puck,” Tavares said. “He stayed really composed, he was under control and he kept talking to us down low the whole time.”
As for Roloson, he said that game is in the past.
"I try to forget anything that’s happened in the past. I try to live in the now. Tonight we’ve just got to focus on what we need to do. It’s a totally different team over there and a totally different team over here. We’ve got to go out and play our game."
