UPDATE: Islanders and Penguins tied at 2, end of regulation

The Islanders receive a pivotal third-period power-play opportunity with less than three minutes in regulation, but can't convert. Team heads to OT for second time in four games.

UPDATE: Islanders and Penguins tied at 2 after second period

Falling behind by a pair of goals, the Islanders mount a furious comeback sparked by one cringe-inducing play.

Penguins defenseman Kris Letang levels Blake Comeau in open-ice leaving Comeau dazed and on his hands and knees for several minutes while attended by team trainers. Josh Bailey goes right after Letang, who received a five minute major and game misconduct for a hit to the head,

Bailey emerges from the penalty box after serving his roughing penalty and tallies on the power-play to cut the Penguins lead in half at 11:18. Less than two minutes later, defenseman Radek Martinek ties the game by lifting hte puck over Johnson's left pad at 13:07.

Islanders still taking too many penalties, but good effort on the PK thus far.

UPDATE: Islanders and Penguins scoreless after first period

Islanders killed off six minutes of penalties in the last 7:41 in the first  period(both penalties given to rookie Nino Niederreiter), but don't create enough in the offensive zone. Penguins limited them to three shots on goal.

Rick DiPietro in net for the Islanders, looking for their first road win of the season. Meanwhile, the Penguins are trying to christen their new building--the Consol Energy Center--with a win. They are 0-3 in their new building so far.

Have heard some complaints about the ice here, so we'll see if that plays a role tonight as well.
