Teams have to get down to 23-man rosters (plus injured reserve players) by this afternoon, but the Islanders don't have many decisions to make.
Trevor Frischmon and Dylan Reese have already passed through waivers, and it's likely both will be assigned to Bridgeport later today. Kirill Kabanov will head back to Montreal, his QMJHL club. That leaves 15 forwards, 7 defensemen and 3 goaltenders, and wingers Nino Niederreiter and Trevor Gillies are on IR with groin injuries.
Niederreiter still hasn't skated since suffering the injury on Friday, so it's fair to presume he's at least a week away from playing; Gillies is one of the toughest guys around, so the groin injury he suffered, also on Friday against the Devils, could sideline him for a bit.
That leaves a 23-man roster. Ryan Strome signed his entry-level deal just in time; he not only gets to stick around the big club, he's an injury away from playing. It's unlikely he'll stay beyond the time it takes Niederreiter to recover, but Strome isn't going back to juniors just yet.
Milan Jurcina's groin injury is getting better, but he might be the odd man out on D on Saturday against the Panthers.
So here's what Saturday's lineup should look like:
Matt Moulson-John Tavares-PA Parenteau
Michael Grabner-Frans Nielsen-Kyle Okposo
Brian Rolston-Josh Bailey-Blake Comeau
Matt Martin-Marty Reasoner-Jay Pandolfo
Mark Streit-Steve Staios
Andrew MacDonald-Travis Hamonic
Mark Eaton-Mike Mottau
Scratches: Ryan Strome, Milan Jurcina, Al Montoya
Jack Capuano won't reveal his goaltender until gameday, but it's hard to see it being anyone other than DiPietro. Montoya has played well, but Nabokov seems to have a leg up on backing up for now.
We'll see what the team says officially in a few hours.
