Although the Islanders already have two tough guys signed--Trevor Gillies and Zenon Konopka--they added another one to the mix.
The team announced the signing of Jeremy Yablonski to a one-year, two-way deal.
Yablonski, 30, had five goals, 12 assists and 571 penalty minutes in 167 games over the past three seasons with the AHL's Binghamton Senators.
"We are very excited to add Jeremy to our organization," Islanders general manager Garth Snow said in a statement released by the team Wednesday. "He adds leadership, size and an intimidating toughness factor to our lineup."
Yablonski, 6-1, 235, just so happened to be Trevor Gillies' dancing partner in an epic heavyweight bout earlier this year in the AHL, although the two are very close friends. Gillies was the best man in Yablonski's wedding and Yablonski was a groomsman in his.
"He's my best friend, actually," Gillies told Newsday back in January. "We had a good one the other night. Afterwards we both had black eyes and we were hugging each other and I kissed his wife and kid. That's just part of the job, you leave it on the ice. Win or lose, we'll always be buddies"
