Isles trail Bruins 2-1 after second period
Frans Nielsen ties the game with a shorthanded penalty shot goal--his second of the season--after being tripped up by Patrice Bergeron at 3:41.
Cringe-worthy mistakes by DiPietro late in the period, however, gift-wraps a Bruins lead. With the Islanders on the power-play, Gregory Campbell snatches a loose puck out of the air and sends it along the boards. DiPietro makes the ill-fated decision to come out of the crease and play the puck at the left circle, but Marchand blocks his clearing attempt and easily maneuvers a backhander on an open net for a shorthanded goal and a 2-1 lead at 14:40.
Isles trail Bruins 1-0 after first period
Sharp start to the first period for Rick DiPietro, but things went very wrong within a matter of 40 seconds.
With 24 seconds left on the team's 37th straight unsuccessful power play, Mark Eaton took a holding penalty to negate the man-advantage. Trying to clear the puck on the PK, DiPietro airmailed it over the glass for a delay of game penalty that put the Islanders down two men.
Defenseman Radek Martinek went down after being nailed with a Zdeno Chara slapshot and head trainer Garrett Timms helps him off the ice with what appears to be an injured left hand.
Right off the draw, the Bruins score as Milan Lucic's shot hits the left post and glances in off DiPietro's right skate for a 1-0 lead.
Parenteau then takes a boarding penalty with 10.2 seconds left in the first. Isles will begin the second period on the PK.
