Isles lead Devils 2-0 after second period

Blake Comeau connects with Rob Schremp, who goes top shelf on Johan Hedberg for the Islanders first two-goal lead since their fifth game of the season, October 16 against Colorado.

Isles manage only 6 shots on goal in the second but lead 2-0 heading into the third.

Isles lead Devils 1-0 after first period

Isles take an early lead on Jesse Joensuu's first goal of the season which came after the 6-4 Finn buried a nice feed from linemate Frans Nielsen at 1:32.

Isles limit the Devils to only five shots on goal but continue to struggle on the PP. They entered the game 0-for-26 over the past seven games. They had two opportunities in the first and failed on both.

On the latter--three minutes long--Gervais negated what would've been a five-minute PP with the man-advantage. Right gesture by Gervais, sticking up for his teammate Parenteau who was leveled along the boards by Colin White, but ultimately a bad idea. White dropped him with one punch and the Islanders had only 3 minutes with the man-advantage as a result.

The Islanders will try to avoid making history today--a loss will tie them with the franchise record--15 games, 1972-73 for worst winless streak--today against the Devils.

No Brodeur again for Devils; DiPietro makes his third straight start for Islanders.

Trent Hunter will miss his fifth game of the season with injury; the 30-year-old will undergo an MRI today on his left knee, which he injured in Wednesday’s 4-3 overtime loss to Columbus.

After scoring his first goal of the season earlier in the game, Hunter sustained the knee injury while delivering a big hit along the boards on Anton Stralman with six minutes to play in the third period.

To replace Hunter in the lineup, veteran Jon Sim was recalled from Bridgeport on an emergency basis.

Sim has played eight games for Bridgeport and 15 games for the Islanders this season.

Islanders captain Doug Weight will missed his fourth straight game with back spasms.

Weight, 39, has two goals and seven assists in 18 games for the Islanders this season. The Islanders have yet to place him on the IR.
