Isles lose 6-5 to Rangers
See game recap in blog post above
Isles trail 4-3 after two periods
Islanders find the intensity lacking in the first and surge for two straight goals. Former Islanders goaltender Marty Biron gets the hook and with Henrik Lundqvist in net the Rangers answer with two goals of their own.
Tide turns on a flukey game-tying goal--awarded to Brandon Prust--that caroms off the stick of Rick DiPietro and glances in off MacDOnald's right hand.
Rangers take the lead on a power-play goal by Gaborik, whose pass intended for Callahan deflects in to snap a 3-3 draw at 16:24.
Isles trail 2-1 after first period
Shots are pretty even after the first period but zone time is not. Islanders spend way too much time in their own end and fall behind by a pair of goals as a result.
With 48.6 seconds to play, gritty fourth-line center Zenon Konopka gets a greasy one in front, slipping the puck past Biron for his first goal of the season at 19:11.
Islanders take on the Rangers at home for the second time this season; the two teams' last meeting was a 6-4 win for the Isles October 11.
Rick DiPietro will match up against former Islander Marty Biron in goal tonight.
Islanders return defenseman Andrew MacDonald, who missed six weeks with a broken right hand.
No exchanges between agitators Zenon Konopka and Sean Avery during pre-game warmups....back after the first period.
