Islanders top a strong Avalanche team with Kyle Okposo's fourth game-winner of the season with 3:17 to play in regulation.
"No one's more deserving than Kyle to get that opportunity on the game-winner," coach Scott Gordon said after the game.
The true gem of the night was the beauty of a goal scored by Rob Schremp, who snatched the puck out of mid-air and took a sharp shoulder-wing with his stick to hammer it in underneath the crossbar.
"Nope. Not at all," Okposo said when asked if he was surprised at such a goal. "He does that type of thing all the time."
The play was initially ruled a no-goal but then reversed after video review.
So Schremp, who finished the night with a goal and an assist, got some redemption after an interrupted post-goal celebration moments prior. That's his second goal in three games, and he's clearly making the most out of his opportunities now that his long-standing stint as a healthy scratch has passed.
I'll have more on his recent success tomorrow.
As per usual, Dwayne Roloson also made some terrific saves, particularly in he third period tonight. He improved to 16-7-6 for the year.
Jon Sim scored his fourth goal in five games.
"I think he was a little snakebitten; now it's starting to go in for him. It probably helps playing with a guy like Rob who can get the puck to the net and make plays. Also Josh coming around on the wing has complemented him."
