Russia exacted some revenge for their quarterfinal Olympic loss by beating Team Canada 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the IIHF Worlds this afternoon and advancing to the semifinals.

Trailing 4-0 in the third period, John Tavares tallied his tournament-leading seventh goal on a sharp snapshot that got Canada on the board against a dominant and talented Russian squad.

After Evgeni Malkin scored an empty-netter, Tavares' fellow rookie Matt Duchene added a goal in the waning moments.

Tavares will leave Germany with 7 goals and some great international experience...Isles fans should be encouraged by such a strong tournament from the 19-year-old rookie.
