John Tavares will not play in a game until at least Saturday, Islanders coach Scott Gordon said after Tuesday's practice at IceWorks. Taveras sustained what the team termed a "mild concussion'' in last Saturday's season opening game against Dallas.
Tavares returned to the ice early Tuesday in a non-contact session before the team's one-hour workout. It was originally thought that Tavares would play Friday against Pittsburgh.
"I don't think Friday, maybe Saturday,'' Gordon said. "It all depends on what happens in the next few days. I didn't see him after he skated, but the fact that he was out there is good.''
Tavares is expected to skate Wednesday morning, but will not join the team for its game in Washington Wednesday night. Tavares declined to be interviewed.
