Jon Sim on waivers; Flyers' Danny Briere gets 3-game suspension

The Islanders announced the move with Sim a bit earlier, just before practice. With Rob Schremp (back) ready to return from injured reserve, the Isles decided to go with Matt Martin in the fourth-line wing role for now. Sim had one assist and was a minus-7 in 11 games.

The Isles (and the Rangers on Thursday) will get to face Philly without Danny Briere, who got a 3-game ban from NHL operations VP Colin Campbell this morning. Briere cross-checked Frans Nielsen in the head in the closing seconds of Saturday's 6-1 Flyers win.

I'm sure some Isles would have preferred Briere to play on Saturday at the Coliseum, but there will be other chances to challenge the Flyers' leading scorer. Maybe even Rick DiPietro, who desperately wanted a piece of Briere after the cross-check, will get a chance.
