Isles' top pick Mathew Barzal signs entry-level contract

Mathew Barzal, the Islanders' first-round draft pick, signed a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Thursday.

Barzal, a 6-foot, 182-pound forward from British Columbia, was the No. 16 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Barzal scored 12 goals and added 45 assists in 44 games last season with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. He added four goals and four assists in six playoff games.
