Montreal's Mike Cammalleri has been suspended by the league for one game following his slash/spear on Isles rookie Nino Niederreiter during Saturday's pre-season game in Quebec.
Upset about a hit from Niederreiter earlier in the game, Cammalleri cross-checked the 18-year-old Swiss winger, speared him and ultimately slashed him on the back of his left leg during the second period. Niederreiter limped off the ice with a bruised left calf and did not return to the game. Although the injury is not believed to be serious, Niederreiter has not practiced since suffering the injury.
Cammalleri, who will forfeit $32, 258.06 in salary, will miss Montreal's regular-season opener against Toronto Thursday.
