Islanders defenseman Milan Jurcina will play for Team Slovakia at this year's upcoming World Championships, the team announced today.
Jurcina missed the last six games of the season for the Islanders after tweaking his hip in practice following the team's 4-1 loss to the Flyers March 26.
Although several other Islanders have elected to forego this year's tournament because of either injury or contract-related issues, Jurcina was looking forward to playing in his own backyard.
This year's World Championships will be held in Bratislava and Kosice, Slovakia. The 27-year-old Jurcina hails from Liptovsky Mikulas, SVK.
