New Isles arena plan to keep Isles on LI through 2045

Wondering what will be announced at today's press conference with Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and Islanders owner Charles Wang?

Newsday has the story here

To Islanders fans this will be a long-awaited development after the past few years and stalled efforts of the Lighthouse Project.

But it's not a done deal yet. According to today's story, Nassau County wants voters to "approve a referendum to borrow up to $400 million for a new arena that would keep the Islanders on Long Island through 2045 and also finance construction of a minor-league ballpark."

Assuming the county legislature grants approval, the referendum will vote on the proposal August 1. If passed ground-breaking would begin next year and the building would be finished by the 2015-16 season.

More to come after today's press conference. I'll be there tweeting with updates as the day unfolds.
