Bryan Trottier had two goals and two assists as the Islanders won their fifth straight game, 5-3, over the Boston Bruins, before a crowd of 14,995 at Nassau Coliseum. The Islanders took a 3-0 lead in the quarterfinal series. Bobby Nystrom and Bob Bourne each had a goal and two assists for the Islanders. The Bruins hosted the first two games of the series, the Islanders winning both in overtime. The Islanders would lose the following game in overtime at home before ending the series with a 4-2 win in Boston. They went on to eliminate Buffalo in six games in the semifinals before winning their first Stanley Cup in six games over the Flyers.
