Gabe Haim and Ryan Schlotter, fans of both the Islanders and of beer, have found a way to honor both.
Starting with Friday night's game against the Penguins, Nassau Coliseum's beer menu includes Barn Rocker, an ale from Oyster Bay Brewing Co., which Haim and Schlotter co-own. It was created in honor of the old barn's final season.
The tap features Islanders blue and orange. The beer is accessible by craft beer standards, with 4 percent alcohol by volume.
Haim said it was "created and brewed especially for the purpose of pouring it at a sports event . . . It's very light, really easy to drink, but with a lot of flavor. You can sit there and have a bunch of them."
Haim, 32, and Schlotter, 33, have day jobs at Rallye BMW in Westbury, but by night they have run the brewery since its June 2013, opening. They produced about 500 barrels last year, with more planned for 2015.
Barn Rocker was born of a wish to "do something special" for the final season at the Coliseum, where "Rock the Barn" has been a rallying cry. It debuted at the brewery earlier this month and was consumed during a viewing party there for Tuesday's Islanders-Rangers game.
It was ready for Islanders fans at last on Friday. It only is available at the brewery and the arena.
