Mercurial Russian winger Kirill Kabanov, a third-round Islanders draft pick this past June, has had an excellent playoff run with the Lewiston MAINEiacs of the QMJHL.
Kabanov, whose problem-child reputation was affirmed this summer with several disciplinary warnings during training camp, has five goals and 9 assists for 14 points in 10 games for the MAINEiacs. He also has a plus-6 rating during that span.
Kabanov's MAINEiacs are still alive in the QMJHL playoffs; they play game 6 against the Montreal Junior Sunday.
Blue-chip defensive prospect Calvin de Haan, a first-round selection in 2009 (12th overall), finished with 1 goal and 10 assists in 9 games for the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League.
Oshawa was knocked out of the playoffs last night with a 7-3 loss to the Niagara IceDogs.
Last year's No. 5 overall pick, Nino NIederreiter has 8 goals and 11 assists in nine playoff games for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League.
The 18-year-old Swiss winger tallied Portland's lone goal in the Winterhawks' 2-1 overtime loss to Kelowna. Game 6 against the ROckets is tomorrow.
