Center Rob Schremp returns to the lineup after being scratched against Washington; enforcer Trevor Gillies will sit tonight vs. Buffalo
With the news that defenseman Milan Jurcina is out 2-4 weeks with an upper-body injury suffered in Monday's game against NJ, coach Jack Capuano said he'd like to see his D step up and chip in offensively.
"If you look at our defense right now, the six guys that are playing, we've only generated 2 goals from those guys," Capuano said. "And I'm one that really likes to see the D get actively involved."
Compared to Jurcina's 3 goals in 26 games this season, Andrew MacDonald, Bruno Gervais, Travis Hamonic, and Dylan Reese have all yet to tally a goal. Radek Martinek and Jack Hillen have contributed one goal apiece this season.
"We've got to get more from our D," he continued. "It's not from lack of trying, but we've got to be better at executing when we get the opportunity.
With his leadership role among the defense, MacDonald is a player in particular that Capuano wants to see produce more.
"He's a 20-plus minute guy. He plays a lot on the power play, so hopefully he'll break the ice sooner or later."
