The Islanders have placed forward Rob Schremp and goaltender Nathan Lawson on waivers.
Both are eligible to play tonight and are expected to be in the lineup against the Capitals, who claimed Marco Sturm off waivers this afternoon.
"It's an opportunity to showcase myself," Schremp said of tonight's game. "I'd rather play than not play and just sit on the shelf."
When asked whether he was surprised by the move, the former first-rounder said:
"Nothing surprises me anymore about this game. It's just part of the business. Some of it's good, some of it's bad. You just have to roll with the punches."
Assuming Lawson and Schremp clear Monday at noon (48-hour waiver period over the weekend) the Islanders can send them back to Bridgeport whenever necessary, providing them some roster flexibility for the remainder of the season
