Former Islanders head coach Scott Gordon has joined the Toronto Maple Leafs staff as Ron Wilson's assistant coach, the team announced Monday.

Before his dismissal in November, Gordon spent the past season and a half coaching the Islanders; he remained with the Islanders in an advisory role for the duration of the 2010-11 season.

Joining Gordon behind the bench as an assistant is another coach with Islanders ties. Former Isles assistant Greg Cronin, who most recently coached at Northeastern University, will also be helping Wilson for the 2011-12 season.

Both Gordon and Cronin recently coached the U.S. Men's Hockey team at this year's World Championships in Slovakia. Gordon was also Wilson's assistant for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
