Hours before the last regular season game at the Igloo, Pengins superstar Sidney Crosby talked about the significance of the night and the importance of giving the building a good sendoff.
"It's been talked about for a while, so yeah, it's set in. We want to make sure to play well just because it is the last game and we need the two points right now. Lot of motivation here tonight," Crosby said.
His favorite memory in the building?
"I've got lots, but my first game probably sticks out the most," Crosby said. "You never know what to expect. I got my first goal, I was playing with Mario, so my first game sticks out."
"I have lots of good memories here. All the guys, all the fans, I've really enjoyed playing here."
Crosby also stressed the importance of starting strong, especially against an Islanders team on a roll.
"There's always a big boost with a ceremony like that. Hopefully that transforms into a good start for us," he said. "We've had some really close games against them and they're playing pretty well right now. We've got to make sure we're on our game because they've upset a few teams here."
