USA bounced from Worlds, Tavares tallies third goal of tourney, Doug Weight update

A very disappointing tournament for Team USA coach Scott Gordon and Islanders Kyle Okposo and Jack Hillen. After a 3-2 loss to Finland, the Americans are now headed to the Relegation Round of the Worlds for the first time since 2003.

On a positive World-Championships-and-Islanders-related-note, John Tavares tallied his third goal in two games. Although Canada lost to the Mark Streit-less Swiss 4-1 for the first time in Worlds history, the prized Isles rookie is showing glimpses of his ability to perform on a large stage in international competition.

Also spoke with Islanders captain Doug Weight this morning via text to see how he is doing after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery back in March.

The last time I saw Weight--during the team's break-up day in April,  about a month post-surgery--he had begun his rehab but was still relegated to the sling.

He texted me today that he is currently sling-free and feeling great.

Personally if I had to wager money on this one, I'd say he still has more left in the tank....
