Islanders defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended two games for an obscene gesture he made in Monday's 6-4 win over the Rangers.

Wisniewski, acquired via a trade with Anaheim in July,  was caught on camera directing a lewd gesture toward Rangers agitator Sean Avery during the first period of yesterday's Columbus Day matinee at Nassau Coliseum.

As a result, he'lll miss Wednesday's game in Washington against the Capitals and Friday's contest against the Penguins in Pittsburgh.

“A lot of actions on the ice are regrettable,” Wisniewski said in a team-released statement.  “I’ve been given a suspension from the league and I’m going to accept it and move on from here.”

The Islanders have either Jack HIllen or Bruno Gervais to insert into the lineup in his place; both were healthy scratches the first two games of the season.

Wisniewski has one goal and two assists in his first two games of the season.
