The Islanders practiced today at Nassau Coliseum with 12 forwards, including Matt Martin, who is suspended for tomorrow's home game with the Lightning and Thursday's visit to the Devils in Newark.
Jack Capuano indicated that the Isles will call someone up from Bridgeport to fill the spot, and it could even be Josh Bailey, who has six goals and 11 assists in 11 games with the Sound Tigers. Rhett Rakhshani, who played last Monday in Nashville, could also come up to fill Martin's spot.
If Bailey returns, according to sources, it would not be for a brief fill-in -- he'd be back for the long haul after a month in the minors. So that may factor into the team's decision.
To make the move, the Islanders have to put someone on injured reserve. That would most likely be Rick DiPietro, who beat the Ducks on Thursday but has been off the ice since Saturday due to swelling in his surgically repaired knee; DiPietro didn't skate again today and he'd have to miss the next two games if he goes on IR.
Mark Eaton, who hasn't played since Dec. 11, could also go on IR. He skated fully today, though and could play tomorrow.
