Jordan Staal escapes suspension for sucker punch

Which seems fair, to be honest. Staal is not the sort of player to repeatedly engage in such behavior. As John Tortorella noted last night, Staal immediately seemed regretful about the glove-on straight left that caught Brandon Prust flush on the jaw.

For those who feel Staal should have been suspended, you should know he's had four fighting majors in his four NHL seasons.

For those who feel Prust was embellishing, you only need to look at how he challenges every single enforcer in the league, as he did with the Pens' Deryk Engelland earlier in last night's game.

Staal deserved a major penalty, but I agree with the NHL. No suspension is warranted this time.
