NHL free agency opened with a flurry of moves. More than 10 teams gave out contracts worth more than $4 million a year on Day 1. A look at the moves (in team alphabetical order):
ANAHEIM DUCKS
Signed defenseman Clayton Stoner to a four-year, $13M deal.
BUFFALO SABRES
Signed forwards Matt Moulson (5 years, $25M) and Brian Gionta (3 years, $12.75M). Moulson had 23 goals and 51 points last season, playing for the Islanders, Buffalo and Minnesota.
Signed forward Marcus Foligno to a two-year deal.
CALGARY FLAMES
Signed defenseman Deryk Engelland to a two-year, $5.8M deal. His salary with Pittsburgh last season was $575,000.
Signed Mason Raymond (3/$9.5M) and Swiss goalie Jonas Hiller (2/$9M).
CAROLINA HURRICANES
Agreed to a two-year, $1.3M deal with center Brad Malone and gave Jiri Tlusty a one-year contract for $2.95M.
COLORADO AVALANCHE
Jarome Iginla's 37th birthday gift was a three-year, $16M deal.
DALLAS STARS
Acquired forwards Jason Spezza (in a trade with Ottawa) and Ales Hemsky (3/$12M).
Signed goalie Anders Lindback and forward Patrick Eaves to one-year contracts.
DETROIT RED WINGS
Signed forward Riley Sheahan, 22, to a two-year, $1.9M deal.
FLORIDA PANTHERS
Signed centers Dave Bolland (5/$27.5M) and Jussi Jokinen (4/$16M)
Willie Mitchell, a two-time Cup-winning defenseman with the Kings, got two years, $8.5M.
Winger Shawn Thornton got two years, $2.4 million.
Center Derek MacKenzie got a three-year, $3.9-million deal.
Goalie Al Montoya: 2 for $2.1M.
MONTREAL CANADIENS
Acquired defenseman Tom Gilbert (2/$2.8M) and center Manny Malhotra (1/$850G) and traded Josh Gorges to Buffalo for a 2016 second-round draft pick.
Signed Czech prospect Jiri Sekac and re-signed free agent defenseman Mike Weaver.
NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Signed forward Mike Cammalleri to a five-year, $25M deal.
Signed forward Martin Havlat for one year and $1.5M.
Lost defenseman Mark Fayne to Edmonton (4/$14M).
OTTAWA SENATORS
Re-signed winger Milan Michalek for three years, $12M.
PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Signed defenseman Christian Ehrhoff for one year and $4M.
SAN JOSE SHARKS
Traded defenseman Brad Stuart to Colorado for two draft picks and signed defenseman Taylor Fedun to a one-year deal.
ST. LOUIS BLUES
Lured Paul Stastny away from Colorado, signing the center to a four-year, $28M deal. Stastny scored 25 goals last season.
TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
Signed defenseman Stephane Robidas (3/$9M) and forward Leo Komarov (4/$11.8).
Reacquired forward Matt Frattin by trading winger Jerry D'Amigo to Columbus.
VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Acquired goalie Ryan Miller for three years and $18 million.
WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Signed a pair of free-agent defensemen from the Penguins, giving Matt Niskanen a seven-year, $40.25M contract, and Brooks Orpik a five-year, $27.5M deal.
Signed goalie Justin Peters to a two-year, $1.9M deal, and re-signed center Michael Latta to a two-year, $1.15M deal.
