But it's believed McCabe, the one-time Islander, will only waive his no-trade clause for the Rangers. That should help them consummate a deal the way the Rangers want, which is not giving up a prized prospect or anyone off the current NHL roster.
There should be more coming on this possible deal today or tomorrow. The Panthers are in the dumps and have now lost Rostislav Olesz for the season and Chris Higgins for three weeks, so GM Dale Tallon may be in full sell-off mode over the next 48 hours until the deadline.
The waiver wire was busy today, with the Caps -- who looked positively awful last night -- claiming Marco Sturm off waivers from the Kings, the Blue Jackets rather surprisingly claiming Craig Rivet on reentry waivers from the Sabres and Nick Boynton claimed by the Flyers for insurance on defense from the Hawks.
Isles Rob Schremp and Nathan Lawson are on waivers today. Not sure what that means, other than the Isles wouldn't mind being rid of Schremp.
