And now, the Rangers have completed their offseason additions by retaining Ryan Callahan, yet another of the core group of players who define this team.
The $4.275-million annual cap hit is a good deal for the Rangers, who still have roughly $800,000 of cap space. Wednesday's signing triggers a 48-hour buyout window, but indications are that the Rangers will not buy out Wojtek Wolski and his $3.8-million cap hit.
The Rangers will go to training camp in September with 14 forwards who have a legitimate shot at making the roster.
If there's a bubble right now, Mats Zuccarello and Erik Christensen are probably on the outside looking in. But Wolski and Sean Avery don't have spots locked up either; in John Tortorella's world, no one has anything locked up.
