The Rangers will be without their top goal scorer from last season for awhile.
Rick Nash, out with a concussion, did not skate Monday and coach Alain Vigneault still does not expect him back soon.
"He's still feeling symptoms," Vigneault said.
The expectation is that at least one forward will be called up from Hartford later Monday to prepare to face the Capitals in Washington on Wednesday.
Arron Asham was placed on waivers, along with Martin Biron, and if Asham clears and is assigned to the AHL, the Rangers would have just 11 healthy forwards.
"it's a performance-based business," Vigneault said. "I've said we need a backup to play 15 or 20 games and play well."
Biron, 36, allowed 9 goals on 38 shots in two games. Vigneault said the coaches and front office would discuss options this afternoon, and that Cam Talbot, who is in Hartford, and former Devil Johan Hedberg, who was brought in for a tryout in camp, would be discussed.
