The Rangers right wing had been assessed a match penalty for his high elbow to Florida's Tomas Fleischmann, and this is the result of yesterday's telephone hearing with NHL discipline czar Brendan Shanahan. I was thinking two games, but have no problem with three as the decision.

With callups Carl Hagelin and John Mitchell in Washington, one or both will play today and tomorrow, when the Rangers host the Flyers. FYI, one of the most cooperative guys with the media when he was a Ranger, Jaromir Jagr, may not dress for tomorrow's MSG matinee due to a lower body injury, according to reports outta Philly. Too bad. Hope he's at least on the trip. Said this before: Missed Jags when he was with the KHL.

Game time is 4 p.m. at Verizon Center today. The coach is expected to speak at 1:50 about the lineup. Newsday's Anthony Rieber is covering; I'll be observing from home, but at MSG tomorrow.

Note: HBO's 12-minute preview of the Winter Classic airs at 9:15 p.m.
