Bernier, L.A. come to MSG on 5-0-2 run...Boogaard update

We hear LA's Jonathan Bernier will be in net after Quick played in 4-3 SO win last night in Columbus. May be the right time to catch Kings on an off-night, but Rangers could be rusty after three days without a game. In games like these, a lead after two periods is valuable. Visitors' legs could be tired.

Will have a report from optional skate at 10:30. Kris Newbury will be there, regulars doubtful, especially after the practices this week and the prospect of playing smokin' hot Devils in Newark tomorrow night.

Just a thought on some 5-6 type UFA D:  Hejda, Lebda, Vandermeer, Sopel. Salei. Not sure what's happening with McCabe.

Did hear some chatter---not from Rangers sources---about Edmonton's Kurtis Foster last night. He's affordable and $1.8 mil next year. Three PPG this season, age 29, 6-5. He could slip into Gilroy $$$ space in 11-12. Oilers, we hear, might go for pick and prospect. Worth considering IMO, if he's available.

Derek Boogaard, out with a concussion since Dec. 9 after a fight with Ottawa's Matt Carkner told me yesterday that he “felt better than in a long time” and had begun light workouts. “There’s finally light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. Boogaard, who has seen several specialists, including an acupuncturist, does not have a timeline to return, however. “It was scary for awhile,” he said. “When you have an injury that you can see, you know it’s going to be a couple weeks or whatever, but with this you didn’t know.”
