ST. PAUL, Minn. - Defenseman Brady Skjei, the Rangers' first-round pick in the 2012 draft (28th overall), has signed an entry level contract with the Hartford Wolf Pack. He will report to AHL affiliate on an amateur tryout since the entry level deal does not begin until next season.

Skjei (pronounced "Shea") completed his junior year at the University of Minnesota after deciding to return to school last season after the Rangers sought to bring him into the organization. An amateur tryout is the first step.

The 21-year-old Lakeville, Minnesota, native is 6-foot-3, 206 pounds. He has been a shutdown blueliner for the Gophers. This season, he had a goal and nine assists, 29 blocked shots and was a plus-8. He missed six games with injuries.
