Carl Hagelin debuts, John Mitchell in; Christensen scratched

In his pre-game remarks down in DC, coach John Tortorella told reporters:

“Those two guys (Hagelin, Mitchell) have played very well down in Hartford. I don’t see much in Erik’s game right now. It’s a hard thing for Erik as far as the ice time that he gets. We want to change. I think Hagelin will add some speed to our team. Our team just seems to be playing a little slow right now. I think he’ll add some speed to it and Mitch has been one of their best players down there the last couple of weeks.

“I don’t think it’s a slow team, I think it’s a team that’s in between right now and making us slow. When you lose a little bit of confidence you end up kind of watching and I think that’s part of our problem. I don’t think we’re the fastest team in the league but I don’t think we’re as slow as we’re playing right now the past couple of games.”

Anton Stralman is the D scratch after one game: Jeff Woywitka back in. Henrik Lundqvist in goal after high-quality performance in Florida. Biron possible starter vs Flyers tomrow at 2 pm.

Watch: Gaborik should be back on 1st PP unit.  If groups continue to struggle, maybe Hagelin or Mitchell get a look. Neither afraid to shoot in AHL.

Hagelin and Mitchell will wear numbers from camp/pre-season: 62 and 34.
