Maybe coach John Tortorella had seen and heard enough about Chris Kreider's stint in the AHL, the "good reports" he spoke about in New Jersey.
We'll get a glimpse of Kreider, who was 6-1-7 in eight games in Hartford before being called up yesterday, at the morning skate around 10:30. All I know is, he remains in the Rangers picture. As I wrote the other day, his jersey is still being displayed prominently in the Garden's merchandise kiosks.
If you've been following here and on Twitter, in the the paper and on my scattershot radio guest spots, we've been lobbying for Kreider's return to add some speed, size and scoring to a team in need of depth beyond the first two lines.
A trade might help at the April 3 deadline, but why leave a gem in the mine?
I assume Kreider will start on the third line tonight and see some PP time against the Panthers at MSG, a game that the Rangers had better not look past, with a two-game winning streak. Think Arron Asham sits this one out, but he could be in on Sunday or early next week, so those lower line wings should be looking over their shoulders.
Guessing Marty Biron in the net tonight, but ya never know in this game. Makes sense, though, for a little break for Henrik Lundqvist with a day off tomorrow as well to prep for Washington at home and then roadies in Philly, Ottawa and Montreal.
On a personal note, best wishes to Glen Sather in his surgery today and coming recovery.
