D.C. Surprise: Mats and Matt in; Avery, Eminger scratched

In a bit of a surprise, Sean Avery and Steve Eminger will be the healthy scratches tonight here in Washington. Mats Zuccarello and Matt Gilroy are dressing for Game One.

Zuccarello had been recalled from the AHL for the season finale and had an assist against the Devils, but played about four minutes. During yesterday's practice in Westchester, he skated with Erik Christensen and Chris Drury.

Matt Gilroy, who played the final two regular season games---one on right wing---is back on D, paired with Bryan McCabe.

Avery was scratched for the final regualr-season game, but had played six in a row prior to that. Eminger didn't dress for the finale either, but had played 11 in a row.

I wouldn't discount the possibility that they will be rotated in during the series,

At the rink but skipping the optional: Lundqvist, Gaborik, Wolski, Dubinsky, Staal...

Best quote from Tortorella, who, like several players, was wearing a playoff/Heritage t-shirt...."We respect the Capitals, but in no way fear them." When I asked him if he was starting his playoff beard, he said he hadn't had a chance to shave, and ended the press conference with a laugh.

More coming up in a few...
