With five key RFAs who have been given qualifying offers---Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan, Artem Anisimov, Brian Boyle and Michael Sauer---all it takes is one to file for arbitration to open a second buyout window in August. It won't be Anisimov, who isn't eligible.
Just because a player files for arb---with hearings in late July and early August---doesn;t mean he can't agree to a deal before a hearing. Majority of players never get to hearings, which can be nasty.
Couple loose ends:
It appears Brad Richards does indeed have a no move clause....the East spent far more than the West in FAs so far....And while the Richards fit will make the Rangers more competitive, the East is no pushover: Buffalo has improved, the Pens will be strong again, Vokoun helps the Caps, Parise helps the Devs. Not sure the Flyers (except in goal), Tampa and the Canes really helped themselves, B's could have a Cup hangover to start the season....Note: Richards in shootouts? 5-12 last season; 25 for 60 career. Will help if one of Zuke, Christensen, Wolski not around.... Oh, an so much for those constant, asburd rumors about offer sheets flying around. Zero.
