As on Friday, the shuttle diplomacy of federal mediator Scot Beckenbaugh continued. Beckenbaugh met with the PA at their hotel for about an hour on Saturday morning and then shifted to the NHL offices on Sixth Avenue about 11:45. Beckenbaugh, who also was part of the talks in 2004-05, spent about 13 hours on Thursday attempting to determine where there might be enough common ground on unresolved issues between the two sides for them to meet face-to-face.

At 6 p.m.,the players' voting ends on whether to authorize the union's executive board---and PA boss Donald Fehr---to use a disclaimer of interest if necessary. The first vote was overwhelmingly in favor, and this one will be also.

Updates coming later here and on Twitter @stevezipay, naturally.
