Pardon the staccato format, just want to get this info out....
Stepan, who once scored two shorties on the same shift in Wisconsin, on his shorthanded goal: "I got my my stick underneath the defenseman's stick and slid it just enought to get it in."
Stepan on his shootout goal: " Kind of goofy. First I went to shoot and then pulled it back, and got it through him."
Stepan on whether he's felt he's done his best to make the team: "I'm happy with what I've done . I've put my best foot forward. Whatever happens, happens. I know I gave it everything I had. "
Lundqvist on Stepan: "He plays really mature and really good with the puck. he can shoot it, he's deadly. Let's hope he has a great year."
Tortorella on Stepan: "He's a pretty good player....it's not so much the goal, but I like the play he made before the goal at the blue line---he made a helluva pass. He simply outworked the guy."
Editor's Note: This kid HAS to be here opening night. He deserves it. When Drury comes back, then it's time to make a decision on centers/wings.
Boyle on his goal: "Prust did a great job. He's playing on his off wing, but did you see that pass? I had a lot of time, looked up, wanted to get it high, it wasn't as high as I wanted, but got in (under his arm). We came back after (losing the 2-0 lead). That was a great job. We're scoring a lot of goals. Last year we didn;t score as many. It's been great playing with those guys (Boogaard and Prust) so far."
Editor's Note: The line had five points, goals by Boyle and Boogaard, who scored his last regular season goal 222 games ago, two assists for Prust and another for Boyle. Keep this line together, coach. Use Tim Kennedy here if you need to rotate with Boogaard.
Rangers leave tomorrow morning for Ottawa. Game's on MSG. I won't be going, working on season previews, other stuff, but will be blogging, tweeting (twitter.com/stevezipay and watching along with you all...
FYI, our next weekly live chat is Wednesday at 1....Thanks for the tremendous response.
