The Rangers have four games left before the Olympic break, starting tomorrow when the New Jersey Kovalchuks arrive at the Garden. Prediction: Kovy nets shootout winner.
I'll be at all four, of course (Nashville, at Pittsburgh and home at the Garden vs. Tampa), although Mr. Staple is subbing for me today as I catch up on some paperwork and errands.
Your NYR need every point possible, because the first five of the final 20 games coming out of the break in March are formidable: At Ottawa, home vs. Pens, at Washington, home for Buffalo, at Newark. Just the top five teams in the East right now.
Re Kovy: Rangers weren't catching Devs anyway.
For those who believe the Rangers have a shot at the 6, 7, or 8th spot in the East, (and 88-89 points may be the cutoff) here's one consideration. The Bruins, Flyers, Canadiens, Lightning, Panthers, Isles---all banging around for those spots--- did not land Dr. K. And the Thrashers are a cut worse.
Those clubs may make some other moves before the March 3 trade deadline, but simply put, the 11 games against those teams will play a major role in determining the Blueshirts' fate.
I'm out for now. Check back later....
